The 2022 Australian Open will be held at the Broadbeach Bowls Club on the Gold Coast from June 11 to 24. Start making plans for the world’s largest and wealthiest open bowls tournament!
The Australian Open has grown into a full bowls festival since moving to the Gold Coast in 2015. It takes place over 14 days and is spread out over 14 host clubs. Over 2,000 bowlers from Australia and the world are expected to compete this year, with entry open to any registered bowler. Furthermore, the Australian Open is not only the largest bowls tournament in the world. With approximately AUD255,000 in prize money divided across 13 disciplines, it is also the richest bowls event.
The first match of each day will begin at 9.00 a.m., except for the final two days, when the trial will end at 8.45 a.m. Matches 2 and 3 will start at 11.45 a.m. and 2.30 p.m., respectively.
On sectional rounds, all sections will be played on the same day at the same club, eliminating the need for participants to travel from club to club during a match day. All matches will be limited to 2 hours and 15 minutes until the quarterfinals. Open Singles, Pairs, and Fours matches will be untimed beginning in the quarterfinals, while all other disciplines will be limited to 3 hours.
